Comedy house Wilhelmsbad
“Little sister” of the Congress Park Hanau
Hanau’s small baroque theater
The Comoedinehaus Wilhelmsbad, Hanau’s small baroque theater in the Wilhelmsbad state park, has been part of the Betriebsführungsgesellschaft Hanau (BFG), under whose umbrella the CPH is also located.
This makes it the “little sister” of Congress Park Hanau. Achieving more together is the motto: whether it’s a health fair, motor show, congress, conference, symphony or chamber concert – together, the two venues can be used for any format.
A barn theater for the bathers
The original purpose of the Wilhelmsbad Comedy Theater was to entertain court society. As part of the spa and bathing complex initiated by Hereditary Prince Wilhelm of Hesse and the ruling Count of Hanau and ceremoniously opened on June 3, 1779, the so-called barn theater offered guests at Wilhelmsbad light entertainment and diversion.
Culture for every taste
Theater, comedy and cabaret, hits, musicals, classical music and culture for children – the program of the Comoedienhaus Wilhelmsbad has something for every taste. The “little sister” of the CPH benefits in part from the larger venue. The “Wilhelmsbad Chamber Concerts” at the Comoedienhaus are a classical music format inspired by the Congress Park Symphony series. The symphony series with the Neue Philharmonie Frankfurt is an event organized by the BFG itself.
Some of the orchestra’s musicians have been inspired by the chamber concert series to welcome the classical music-loving public to Wilhelmsbad with an appropriate format.
Sleeping beauty
After just four short seasons, the final curtain fell in Wilhelmsbad in 1861. The small baroque theater slept like Sleeping Beauty for almost a hundred years. It was reopened in October 1969 thanks to a joint effort by the state of Hesse, the city of Hanau and Hessischer Rundfunk, and its 50th anniversary was celebrated with an exclusive program from 3 to 6 October 2019.
Potential as a historical location
Being part of the BFG has given the Comoedienhaus the opportunity to develop its potential as a historic location. By joining forces and pooling their expertise, the event professionals at CPH and Comoedienhaus can make almost any organizer’s wish come true.
With its 211 seats, the charming baroque theater is also ideal for readings, seminars, exclusive receptions or anniversaries. The Comoedienhaus has even hosted a doctors’ conference.
